The Ups and Downs of Life

Updated: Jan 19, 2022

Have you ever had one of those days where you planned on flying a kite and it turned out there was no wind? That was what happened last summer when we were in Connecticut visiting our grandkids. Grammy had brought a kite to fly in her suitcase for a special fun time somewhere during the weekend. My son took us to a local park where there was a fabulous open field. The day was sunny and not a cloud in the blue sky. Wonderful! A perfect place to fly a kite. The only problem was that there was just a whisper of a breeze around us and no wind.

But, I wanted to make it happen for Wesley, my three-year old grandson, so... why not run with the kite? My optimistic son, could see I was dead set on making something happen, so he kindly agreed to use his athletic skills and run with the kite. On the count of three we threw the kite up in the air as high as it could go while my son on the other end started running as fast as he could. Hurray!! It worked! So we repeated our experiment time after time allowing Wesley the chance to run too, until our breath gave out from running. Then Grammy and Wesley laughed, jogged back to the car and started singing the "Baby Shark" song.

Today I wish my kite would have flown so easily. I went to get my blood drawn for some annual lab tests. I had the optimistic attitude that it would go well, just like the last time when I soared through the process. However, this time it was a different lab. The young lady was very kind, but after several jabs on both arms, she explained that I would need to come back because I didn't drink enough water that morning. Well, okay... needless to say after fasting, four cups of water in place of my coffee, and a wait for two hours? Umm... let's just say my kite had lost it's wind.

My kudos to you today is no matter what you face today or tomorrow, God can be the wind to let you soar through any situation, if you ask for his help. There will always be the ups and downs of life, but He is the all sustaining force that allows us to keep it in perspective. So after complaining to my husband a bit, I prayed for those who suffer on a daily basis with medical challenges and needle pokes. Lord forgive me! Help me to put on my big girl pants and be thankful for your sustaining wind that helps me put it all into perspective! Thank you God for letting me fly my kite with a grateful attitude, even if it takes a little more running than expected!

He makes the clouds his chariot; He rides on the wings of the wind. Psalm 104:3
