The Sunsets with Sorrow

When our nation grieves together as a whole it is felt like a ripple effect, like the aftershock from an earthquake. My heart was so heavy this past Tuesday evening that I retreated to one of my favorite spots, a state park near our house. In nature, I'm reminded of all the mysteries yet unknown and yet to be discovered. In the vastness of the skies I see God's beauty and the natural rhythm of things that we regularly count on like a sunrise and sunset.

As a former public school teacher in elementary grades 2 and 4, I can visualize so clearly the setting in which the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas happened. The busy sounds in the hallways, the smells of pencils and erasers in the classroom, and of course the lone voice you would hear coming from the classroom. The teacher loudly instructing and giving it his or her best.

There must be so many questions on people's minds of those who are believers. Why God would you allow such innocent life to be taken? The fact is we live in a world that is filled with good and evil. There will be a battle of such until Jesus returns and sets up His kingdom. But until that happens we are to do all we can to proclaim the truth and not back down when presented with evil, just like these two teachers did at Robb Elementary. Reports that I have read said they both died trying to protect their students.

My kudos to you today is this: Be God's voice that will not be silent when a voice of truth or step of bravery is needed. Don't retreat to the easy places. Our world desperately needs those who will speak up for the defenseless. Go shine your light bright as it will drive out the darkness for all you shine upon. Make sure when you follow your passion that is has a purpose other than your own. You might just be the one God uses to ease someone's sorrow as they watch the sunset.

For anyone who keeps his life for himself shall lose it: and anyone who loses his life for me shall find it again. Matthew 16:25 Message version.
