The Quiet Calls Me

Updated: Mar 10, 2023

A tributary is a small stream that flows into a larger stream or other body of water. The nature of this tiny body of water may seem insignificant, but it's quietness calls me. It calls me to still my soul from the rush and hurry of daily life.

There is a refreshment that comes from quieting your soul. It's hard to describe, but wonderful to experience. You must let go of the technology that wants to drain your brain with information overload. We have allowed ourselves to become sucked into a vortex of constant information. Who is texting me? What is the latest happenings in our world? What about my health today? How will the weather effect me? Can I make plans for next week, next month, or next year? Without even realizing it, we have become programed by the immediate gratification of technology.

My kudos to you today is this: Find the time or plan the time in your schedule for solace. It may be just taking 10 minutes to pull away at a roadside park. Get outside and breathe in the fresh air. Commune with God in your still time. Appreciate some type of nature and thank Him for it. Take wonder in the smallest things of life. A small stream may seem insignificant but it has it's place in the forest for every living creature that uses its water source.

God wants us to be filled with wonderment just like a little child that marvels at the tiniest rock in the stream. He wants us to enjoy Him like a little child who runs to his parent with excitement over that little shiny rock in the stream and shouts, "Look what I found?" So go out today and find some time to quiet your soul and experience the calm. It is calling you and God is calling you too.

And He called a small child and had him stand among them. And He said: Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name, welcomes me. Matthew 18:2-5
