The Irish Blessing

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all! This celebration, like a lot in Western culture, has been morphed and disguised to sell products, food and drink. Many are not familiar with where and how the festive remembrance began. Similar to the encasings of the most joyous, sacred days of the year, Easter, in which the Easter bunny replaces the Cross. Now we see a wee-little leprechaun symbolizing a special day that was originally set to honor a man who turned a society around through the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

It is well known to many and in history that St. Patrick used the three-leaf clover or shamrock to illustrate the basic concept in Christianity of the Holy Trinity - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. St. Patrick used this small plant to compare how one leaf would be incomplete without the other, and it would cease to be a clover leaf if all three did not exist together. This seems such a simple basic concept, but to many uneducated people in the 5th century, it was a visual example that many could understand. He went on to share with the common people that Christ was the only answer for man's redemption from sin and death. Many lives were transformed and they turned from their barbarian lifestyle. It is recorded historically that over 100,000 turned to Christianity and thus changed the culture of Ireland for the better.

My kudos to you today is to remember that God's love is extended to all mankind, no matter how dark and turbulent our times may get. Christ is the light of the world and hope in our darkest night. It brings a blessing of goodness. Do you know of this blessing? Share this truth with someone this week. If you don't know Him, I pray you will find Him and have this eternal blessing.
