Seeing the Big Picture

It was a chilly, winter day standing on a high point of the canyon with our son, daughter-in-law and three-year-old grandson. The canyon sounds from below were of a gushing water fall and white-capped river. The view was breath-taking as we stood at the crevice edge making sure our little grandson was tight in our hands. What adventure awaited us as we anticipated the hike into the canyon to see the waterfalls!

As we prepared for the hike into the canyon, it started to lightly mist and rain. The stones became a bit slippery, also some of the path had metal steps which made it even more challenging. We, my husband and I, decided on the side of caution to wait at the top of the path leading down to the falls. We let the "young folks" carry on and told them we would meet them back at the car.

Waterfalls are one of my favorite outdoor sites to see, so the fact that hubby and I stayed behind was an opportunity to allow sadness to cover the event. The choice was either to to feel sorry for myself or thank the Lord for just being there, so as not to dwell on the disappointment. I remembered the canyon edge, the breath-taking view and thrill of seeing the bottom of a very steep ridge with a rushing river. Many times in situations we can focus on the negative things that are happening around us so much, that we miss a joyful moment that could be right before our eyes.

My kudos to you today is to be thankful for what you have right where you are. When you do this it lifts your attitude into a new altitude. You are able to rise above the frustration of whatever it is. Your eyes can look out over the canyon and see the big picture full of hope and God's goodness.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-1
