Secure in the Sand

Each time I arrive in the forest it's like a new adventure. You never know what you might see or spot along the path, but you have to be looking for things and stop to observe. So it was on a day last week, my eyes spotted a an eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly right in the middle of the path. According to the markings, it appeared to be a male. Might he be injured? There were bushes and flowers near by, but he seemed to be firmly positioned on a piece of pine bark.

As I was snapping a few pics with my cell phone, I started a conversation with the butterfly questioning his position. I questioned why it decided to fix itself on the pine bark. Then I waved my hand over it causing it to flitter upwards. I was trying to move him to the nearby flowers. However it persistently returned to the bark no matter how I tried to direct him to the flowers. Finally, I gave up and said goodbye.

My kudos to you today is live and let live. Often in life we try to put people and situations in a mold. We can understand the biology, the psychology, or the environment to be conducive for the best outcome for a situation. But the Creator of the universe has wonders and experiences yet to be enjoyed for each person.

So I left the forest that day, seeing other butterflies enjoying the cherry blossoms, but not this tiger swallowtail. He was obviously enjoying something I couldn't see. He was secure in the sand!

It is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose. Philippians 2:13 (NIV)
