Ribbon in the Sky

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

Keep dreaming and keep believing. When the unexpected happens you won't believe it.

Last month my husband and I took a trip to scope out the land at a place that we'd like to move. Aiken, SC is a smaller town near Augusta, GA. We were drawn to the area because of their moderate winters, golf courses, and horse sports. I'm sheepish about my interaction in the horse sporting field, as my love for horses has mostly involved rodeo events and equine therapy. I'm a novice of sorts, but a happy novice!

My Dad modeled for me with his life to never lose your sense of adventure in pursuing opportunity that you know nothing about or maybe just a little about. He was an avid learner and never feared trying new things, if for no other reason just to see who you might meet in life or connect with. I call them God connections.

On one such morning, I met a lady while at the coffee station in the local Inn where we were staying. (If you ever are traveling through the area check out the www. innathoundslake.com ) I assume she read the back of my jacket labeled Horses With A Mission, when she approached me with the question, "Are you going to the horse show today?" I replied that I wasn't aware of it, but would be interested in going. She then explained the location, times of the event, and how to get there. Suddenly her friendly cocker spaniel started bouncing around my feet and I received a happy goodbye from them both.

Later that day after church and lunch, we found the horse park. To our amazement and surprise we were able to find parking right in front of the horses warm-up arena then just a short walking distance to the ongoing jumping competition. There was plenty of open seating as it was later in the day and the event was coming to an end.

I kept saying to my husband, "Pinch me, I must be dreaming!" Just hearing the pounding hoof beats of these massive creatures as they rushed to the jump was an adrenaline rush. The sights, sounds and smell all made my heart leap!

To top it off, there was the most beautiful blue sky that day with unusual cloud patterns. They looked like ribbons forming as a background of sorts for the horse jumping. I marveled to be so close-up to these powerful horses and their riders. What an experience! It seemed as if God was smiling down on us. I could hear his gentle voice say inside of me, "Keep believing my little one. Your life journey has just begun."

My kudos to you today: Keep believing, especially as you ponder the new year! Let God interrupt your ordinary day with extraordinary events. Open yourself to new adventures. Like the angel said to Mary when she was overcome with the angel's presence, "Fear not, for you have found favor with God." God is still in the business of interrupting our lives today. We find favor in His eyes each day because of His Son Jesus. Look for His miracles and signs in your life, even if it's a ribbon in the sky!

"And the angel came to her and said, "Greetings...The Lord is with you." Luke 1:28"
