Pumpkin Picking Fun

Updated: Nov 1, 2021

Recently, we were in Connecticut, having fun getting pumpkins. My grandson and son wanted to pick out just the right ones, and get one for Grammy too! My daughter-in-law, had the wonderful idea of painting the pumpkins to decorate for the season. I was once again amazed at all the varieties and shapes of pumpkins. It made me think what a harvest we were enjoying of someone's hard work to plant all the pumpkins seeds or plants.

Pumpkins come in many varieties of shapes and sizes; 14 different varieties are typically grown, with an expected 90-120 days to maturity after seeds are planted. According to the USDA pumpkin production is widely dispersed throughout the United States. They are mainly in California, Indiana, Michigan, Texas and Virginia, with Illinois harvests being the largest. In the last 2 years, farmers in the top pumpkin-producing states, harvested more that 800 million pounds of pumpkins! Time magazine did an article in 2018 about Steven Geddes of New Hampshire who grew a record-breaking pumpkin weighing in at an astounding 2,528 pounds! What a harvest of pumpkin!

What have we been planting with our deeds and actions for the last 90-120 days? It is a law of nature that you reap what you sow. Not only in the natural realm, but also in the spiritual realm. There are 66 Bible verses about sowing and reaping. These truths are principals that are given as a guidance for this life and in the life to come.

What are you sowing today? You can start with a small seed of determination to make a change and one day reap a huge dividend of eternal reward from God. My kudos to you today is to examine your soil and the seeds you sow. Determine to sow good seeds and keep your soil tilled and pliable to the Master's touch. You will reap a harvest of blessing in this life and in the life to come.

Jesus told them another parable: the kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed into his field." Matthew 13:24
