Price tag Perception

Updated: May 26, 2021

Kudos to you today who are great shoppers and are always looking at the price tags. I do that. I was raised that way, not consciously, but by assimilation as a child in the 60's watching my Dad conservatively shop. Dad was raised during the Great Depression. His mom was left as a widow with five children to raise, clothe and feed. My grandfather died young at 32 with an appendicitis attack. He was an engineer for the railroad when he passed. My grandmother managed to somehow buy a small general store and all the family lived in the back of the store. My dad said, they still didn't make much because my grandmother would usually "float" people's bills because no one had much money during that time. They would pay her back with chicken and eggs which did help some. Hence, the "thrifty" status that was passed down to me.

It is good to be thrifty and live within your financial means. However, I found this thriftiness, made me perceive things about myself. I thought that I was not worth the nicer clothes or the expensive dresses because after all, why pay more when you could keep searching and waiting for the item to go on clearance or go on sale?

Sometimes in life we need to tell ourselves it's OK to splurge on ourselves if we have the funds to do so, and then not feel guilty about it. I've had to let go of my preconceived ideas controlling me. Material things and their values, whether they are high priced or of lesser price should not effect the value of who I am.

I am a child of God, made in His image, created to do good works. We are God's workmanship. He has created those who have accepted Him, so we can do the good things he planned for us. God encourages us throughout scripture in the Bible to know that our home is not of this world. Consequently, whether we have much or whether we have little he has said that we are complete in Christ.

What plagues you today or haunts you from your past that says you are not good enough? My "kudos" to you today or my affirmation of praise is from God who says in Psalm 139:14. "You are fearfully and wonderfully made." And the only way you experience this true affirmation is to know the Father God who created you. His love can only be received as you confess your sins, accept His son Jesus as a forgiveness of your sins, believe that Jesus died on the cross, was resurrected on the third day and is coming back again! There is only one way to fulfill your purpose by the Creator and that is to know Him through his son. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life and no man comes to the Father, but by me. John 14:6

What price tag will you put on your eternal salvation? The good news is that Jesus already paid the price! Won't you receive Him today? Remember there is a hell to shun and a heaven to gain!
