New Friends

Its' been over a week now since we brought home Buddy to invade our quiet world, well relatively quiet. Prior to that it was just our eight-year-old Manx cat, Simba. When they first met it was amazing. No cat hissing or dog barking, just a nose to nose sniff. They both seemed to just tolerate each other in the beginning and do a lot of ignoring. But today, what happened? I found them sleeping together on Buddy's dog bed! I guess the Cold War was over.

Perhaps there is a life lesson here for all of us. When was the last time you made a new friend? We sometimes get in our cycle of being comfortable with the same family and friends. Having supportive friendships have proven to improve physical and mental health. Proverbs tells us that whoever hangs out with wise people will become like them.

My kudos to you today is to explore new friendships. It may prove to be beneficial. For example, since we have been home I noticed our cat would sleep all day smack dab in the middle of the dog bed. Buddy would patiently look on and sleep beside it on the floor. Today he decided to join his new friend and Simba welcomed him by adjusting a bit for his largeness. Now they have the benefit of being warm together on chilly days! It was a win-win for both of them!

Some friendships do not last, but some friends are more loyal than brothers. Proverbs 18:24
