Moment by Moment

Updated: Jul 18, 2023

Moment by moment we live out our life. It really isn't about our past regrets or future plans, but our compacity to live life joyfully in the present. Recently a friend came up from Florida for a visit. We visited some of the downtown historic sites and of course had to share a local favorite spot at Flanigan's ice cream where the creamy, hand-dipped ice cream is delicious. I highly recommend the apple pie flavor!

After we got our scoops, we decided to sit inside the ice cream parlor since this is July and the temps are climbing. It was fun to watch people come and go trying to make-up their mind as to what flavor they would choose. Several people asked for taste sampling, which I plan to do next time! I missed out on some of the fun by not trying some of the tempting flavors!

Several people came up to us and asked if they could pet Buddy. Aiken is a very dog-friendly town and extends it's warm Southern hospitality to pet owners also. One of these admirers who came up to us was a little girl with rosy cheeks and curly blonde hair. We quickly learned from her Mom that she was almost three and her name was Holly. Holly sat down at our tiny, glass-top table and giggled at Buddy while being very animated with her joyful smiles and little taps on Buddy's head. The innocence and beauty of this little child was as refreshing as the ice cream! It was wonderful to soak up the beauty of the moment. She smiled at us like she had known us all her life, but in reality she was really free in the moment as her Mom sat watching directly behind her smiling from ear-to-ear.

Perhaps our lives are so bogged down with planning and fretting we forget how to enjoy the moment like this little girl who so freely shared with us her joy. Jesus instructed us not to worry about tomorrow, but know that our heavenly Father will feed and clothe us just like he feeds and clothes the earth. We are only given the promise of today. My kudos to you today is to be present in the moment and allow yourself to soak in the friendships and experiences that life presents. You might just get splashed with a "Holly" smile and giggle. A bit of heaven come to earth.

Live each day accepting it's opportunity to soak in the moment by moment experiences. The starts and the stops of life are yours for either the taking or the rejecting. If we embrace each season the journey will be so much more enjoyable.

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3: 1 NLT
