May I take your picture?

Sometimes the simplest random acts of kindness are well appreciated and remembered. On our last road trip to see our kids in Connecticut, we stopped overnight in Baltimore. We had no idea of where to eat that evening, so we just headed out of the hotel to mill around the shops downtown. My husband likes a good falafel which is a staple of Mediterranean cuisine. After considering several Italian places, we ran into a busy Mediterranean restaurant. The inside was freezing cold to me, so we opted for an outdoor table. The weather was a perfect 70ish and our view was right by the Baltimore harbor.

As we were seated, I noticed a couple sitting across from us with a dog. The dog was a small sandy-colored hound mix. It laid perfectly calm during our entire time. When the couple got up to leave, I asked them if I could pet their dog. They were happy to let their dog share a few tail wags with us and head pats. They explained that the dog was a rescue and it had been the perfect fit for them. Then the lady asked me a random question, "Would you like me to take your picture?" Perhaps it wasn't too random since we had just been trying to take a shot with the water in the background, but to no avail my short arms were not accommodating for a long distance pic.

She gladly took my phone, asked how to use it and then took several pics. They said goodbye and we wished them safe travels. Our paths will most likely never cross again, but she seized the moment to extend a kindness. Her taking our picture was such a simple act but it made for a beautiful memory to capture.

My kudos to you today is to be aware of those around you during your everyday course of life. Extend kindness and it will become a blessing to others. Where you walk and the places you go, the settings and the exact same people can not be recreated. Live your life today with expectancy that God has you where you are to show kindness to those around you.

Do good, lend, and expect nothing in return and your reward will be great. Luke 6:35
