Like a Deer in the Headlights

Honestly, I want to quit watching the news. I feel like a deer in the headlights! Each day recently something has been announced about changes in the fabric of our society. The foundation of our families is being undermined by cultural changes that were not biologically instituted from the beginning of time. Movies, films, and cartoons are mocking the very values that made our country great. Most of our grandparents and great-grandparents would be outraged. This goes far beyond change in light of progress or technology.

While walking in the woods one evening, my husband and I were amazed at how this deer didn't run away when we took this picture. It stood as somewhat frozen. Even when we left it still had not moved. When fear, panic, or confusion are so extreme that it is impossible to act or think normally we freeze, just like the deer.

But on second thought, perhaps the deer had become accustomed to "people" presence, being near to a popular walking path. It had become okay with people invading its natural space, as long as it didn't feel threatened. I think our society in some respects has become like this deer too. It has adjusted to the changing environment, but still longs for the natural surroundings of our past.

My kudos to you today is to not freeze and allow for numbness, when faced with difficult information or life choices. Just get the information, but don't allow fear to freeze you. Are you allowing someone to talk you into giving up your natural surroundings thus becoming accustomed to the deer in the headlight shock? Pray, be strong, and ask God to be with you.

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread … for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6
