Easter '86

Many people around the world will celebrate Easter this weekend. When our kids were young back in the 80's, we taught them that the main focus on Easter was all about the Cross and not a bunny giving you candy. On this particular Easter in 1986 I felt compelled to put up a large cross with blood stains in our front lawn on Good Friday. Then early, before day break on Sunday, we placed flowers, streamers and a sign at the base of the cross, "He is Alive!" We used the season as a way to share our faith with others in order that they too might remember the Cross and what Jesus did for the world.

Everyone in the world that has heard this message, has a choice of having their sins washed away for eternity and the assurance of going to heaven because being good is not the passage into heaven. Everyone is not going to heaven. There is a real hell and that is the other option most people today don't like to hear about.

I love people enough to remind them of the truth. It's what I have experienced in a friendship with Jesus. Anyone can have this relationship by acknowledging their sin, repenting to turn away from things that are not pleasing to God, and confessing Him as Lord and Savior. This experience will bring you new life. However, just to agree intellectually that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the cross is not enough. We receive Jesus Christ by faith, as an act of the will. Then we share that life change with others. We become His disciples and true followers.

My kudos to you today is to share the light and hope that Christ brings into the world with others. He loved you enough to suffer a brutal death and die beaten, naked, spit upon and bleeding on a cross. Can we endure maybe a little rejection by others that might be resistant to the message? On the other hand, it might change their life for eternity!

Whoever acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. (the words of Jesus as recorded in Matthew 10:32)
