And then came Buddy...

What do you do with a blessing that comes to you in a surprise package? Well you open it, right? Who doesn't want a surprise gift?

We were not planning on getting another dog for a while, after saying goodbye to our last dog of over thirteen years. The freedom from responsibility was sort of nice, but notice I say, "sort-of." It also became very lonely for me, as I had always had a dog companion by my side for the last thirty plus years. I guess you don't realize how much you receive from God's gifts until they are gone.

Buddy was our son's dog. He and the whole family loved the dog very much, all five of them. But with the most recent addition of our little grandson, now just one month old, Buddy's needs added to the mix of a three year old and a one year old. The dog still has a lot of puppy energy at just under two years himself. When my son told me that they were sadly going to rehome the dog, my ears perked up. I talked to my husband and he said, "I guess we will have a new companion going home with us." He was smitten too.

Buddy is a friendly, smiling dog. He wants to greet everyone he sees with a wagging tail and a big lick on the face. He likes other dogs too, plus children and most everyone in general. After having four therapy dogs, I can recognize quickly that he will make a great one in the future. He just needs some fine tuning and learning a few more obedience commands.

So what is my kudos to you today? Always be expecting the next good, God surprise in your life. It might not come when you are expecting it, but be flexible enough to change your agenda if something falls in your lap. Let go and follow your gut, even if it might mean a little more effort, time, money and energy. This might open up the next door in your life and you can say with a smile...And then came....

Every good and perfect gift comes down from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17
