Amazing Wonderment

Updated: Oct 6, 2021

Reflecting today on the recent passing of my Dad. He had a way of finding amazing wonderment in any place he found himself in. In particular, he loved the ocean, but he didn't get to visit the ocean much living in Oklahoma. However, when he did get to the ocean, it was as if he had seen it for the first time. I think I assimilated the same affection.

Several years ago, standing on the shores of the Atlantic in Palm Beach, Florida, we marveled together at two ocean vessels several miles out on the horizon. He couldn't see well in his later years, consequently I would point out things in the distance. I don't know how well he could really enjoy what I was seeing, but he continued to marvel with me just the same. What a gift of empathy. It was a wonderful comfort to know that he was giving of himself to share and understand my wonderment. We shared the joy together; at least he made me feel that way.

It is in similar fashion that our heavenly Father comes along side of us desiring to share our interests and joys. The next time you spend time in nature marveling in the wonder of it all, ask yourself this question. Have I asked the heavenly Father to come along side me? Can you sense his arm on your shoulder? He is there marveling with you. After all, he made it!

My kudos to you today is to know and believe that there is an omnipotent God who is all knowing, but who is full of empathy for your situation. He knows when you sit down and when you get up. He knows everything we do. He wants us to get to know him as a loving Father or as a compassionate friend. Take time today and allow him to walk by your side. Feel him next to you with his arm on your shoulder. Know he delights in the things that you delight in!

Psalm 139:1-10 ERV...You are all around me - in front of me and behind me. I feel your hand on my shoulder...If I go east where the sun rises or go to live in the west beyond the sea, even there you will take my hand and lead me...
