A Heart Unnoticed

I have been blessed to be a volunteer with an equine therapy program not too far from where I live. This program is to give therapy to children and adults that have been diagnosed with a special need such as autism and post-traumatic-stress-disorder. A favorite of everyone at Horses With a Mission, Inc. is a horse called Trinity.

Trinity is a friendly horse who loves to do tricks like playing with a ball, stroking the ground on count, bowing, and even picking up your hat on command. Besides helping to groom and tack the horses, the students also get a few minutes after the riding lesson to thank the horse for the ride and give the horse a hug. Yesterday, a little girl about six years old approached Trinity to say goodbye. She quickly pointed to the top of his face and said, "Oh, look! A heart!"

Suddenly amazed I replied, "Wow, you are so right! I've never seen that heart before!" I'd groomed and rubbed Trinity's face over a dozen times, but never noticed the white spot as a heart-shape! But that day, I saw it plain as day! There staring at me too was a beautiful heart-shaped white spot buried in the coal black fur between his eyes. It was like the Creator had given the horse a seal on his forehead because he would touch the many hearts of others with the love and gentle healing that only a horse can give.

My kudos to you today is to look for the heart in others. Look beyond the surface of their appearance. There might just be a beautiful heart staring you in the face, but you've never seen it before. Give God's grace and mercy to others and consider their heart. That's what He does for us every day!

For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7
