A Gift Opens the Way

We've each been given a gift in life. Some have been blessed with more than others, but that's okay. The Master Designer has a purpose for your life and the way he specifically designed you. Why do we spend so much time in comparing ourselves to others? Isn't it really fruitless?

Throughout my childhood, adolescent and teenage years I longed to be taller. I would pray at night and ask the Lord to help me to grow taller. Most of my friends were at least two inches taller than me, and as the teenage years approached the gap grew larger. Finally, I resigned myself to four feet eleven inches but only because I could boast at least two more inches when I discovered high heels! Wow, those hard stacked shoes, clogs and spiked heels were fantastic to make up for the difference. No matter if my feet hurt and my back ached, I would endure the pain for the moments of pleasure just to feel taller!

Now at age 65, guess what? I have zero heels in my closet! Flats and athletics shoes are my shoe of choice. The years have caught up to my back and feet. They have finally won out. The pain out weighs the pleasure of a few inches. Now you taller people might find this ridiculous, but before you start analyzing me, I'm sure there is some part of your physical make-up that has annoyed you over the years. We live in such a picture perfect society, that is constantly driving us to image and perfection.

What is this perfection we are striving for - better house, better car, better vacation or better physical appearance? It sounds like a materialistic goal that reduces our self-worth to attainment of self-satisfaction. But what if we've missed a gift within ourselves along the way?

My kudos to you today is to know that you were created and designed uniquely for a purpose. Let go of the things that hold you to a rule of perfection and know that God loves you just the way you are. He has given you unique gifts that only you can fulfill. Those gifts may still be waiting to be unwrapped. Take a few minutes of quiet repose today and ask the Creator to show you ways that you can share a gift that you've been given. Gifts come in all shapes, sizes and colors. God has wrapped you in the sparkling design of his liking. Your gift may just be waiting for you to give it away. God has put a gift or talent in every person that the world will make room for. It is in this giving that you will find true fulfillment and contentment.

Your gift will make room for you. Proverbs 18:16
