A Club of Two

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

This past week we celebrated 42 years of marriage. It has been a life-long journey in our "club of two." I call this a club of two because there have been times when we had no one to cheer us on except each other. Yes, we have family and friends who have shared their good wishes, prayers and support. But when the rubber hits the road, it was just us two, going through daily life together 24/7.

For example, this past week on our anniversary, I woke up with some type of stomach virus. For lack of a better description, there were some serious moments of toilet hugging going on for me. Hubby was once again living out the part of our wedding vows , "in sickness and in health." He was there to bring me cold water, soda crackers, and icy pops for next three days. These things seem obvious, but simple acts of kindness given in compassion can prove to show love in action.

Marriage is far from a picture-perfect romance movie. It is really a life-long journey that involves two, a man and a woman who have made a commitment to love each other no matter what life throws at them. We have found the glue that has held us together in this club of two is our acceptance of Christ's love. His love in us and through us helps us to lay down our differences when they arise and forgive unconditionally. Ultimately, we both must realize that it's not having our own way that counts or what makes us happy, but looking how we can meet the needs of each other.

My kudos to you today is to get to know the author of this sacrificial love because whether you are a club of two or a club of one, His love will help you through every situation in life!

Jesus said, "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you." John 15:12
